Lenard Secondary College
A school for secondary students was built in 1951; it was first titled Hunter Secondary. It was built by Garth Hunter, a well off wealthy business man who wanted to try something different. All was going well for the Hunter family, Garth and his wife, Ethel, and children Kenneth and Lucile were getting prepared for a family holiday to Spain. They had hired a renowned butler to take care of all their belongings.
They left for Spain and spent a good long six months there. When they returned, they were horrified that their house had been robbed and burned. Garth went into a state of Depression, which was incurable at their hospital. He ended up hanging himself in the school. His family was horrified but they survived. They had another house built where the other had stood and lived well for the next few years.
Another disaster came upon the family when Ethel died. She was aged 60 when it happened, a good ripe age, or so they say. At this stage both their children were 20 and 21, Kenneth being the oldest. The school was still going strong, over the past five years, it had had three hundred students come in and out of it, most left before they hit year ten. This was a huge inheritance for Kenneth and Lucile. They now had power over the school. It was in their hands.
Then, in 1960, the school was burnt down by a deranged stranger who had nothing else better to do. The fire swept through the whole school, which at that stage was only built of wood. There were many sleeping students and teacher who perished in the fire. Many also escaped, though they were shocked and horrified by the damage that it had done and all the friends, colleges, teachers, and students that had been killed by the fire.
The school was ditched and the Hunter family went away, doing what else they wished to do. They never came back, ((I’m thinking maybe later in the plot they could, you know when the site gets up and running properly)). The site was deserted for many years, until in the year 2006 the sight was bought by a wealthy business man ((again)) and he decided to build another school there. He did not know what controversy he might create, but he did it anyway.
It was not until January 2008 that the school was opened, re-named Lenard Secondary College. His name was John Lenard; he did a small bit of research and wrote letters to the families of those who perished in the fire. He offered these families to send their children to the school with a half price discount on the enrollment price. ((The letter can be found on the site)).
